On January 16, 2018, Lester Elton Charles Weston, passed away peacefully in the arms of his devoted wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Brown), surrounded by his loving family. Born in St. Martins on February 3, 1936, to the late Elton and Janet (McCavour) Weston, he lived his early life in Fairfield, settling in St. Martins after his marriage to Phyllis, where they raised their five children: Suzanne (Bradley) Brown, Rodney (Dawn) Weston, Geoffrey (Sherry) Weston, Leanne (Dana) Noftell, and Bruce (Kyla) Weston. After his first job at the Golden Ball Irving, Lester held many different types of employment during his 46 years in the workforce, including being the Owner and Proprietor of Weston’s General Store, a salesmen for Canada Life Assurance Company, and driving truck in his final years prior to retirement. Lester was actively involved in the community in which he lived and raised his family. He was a Charter Member of the St. Martins Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the St. Martins Village Council from 1966-1974, and a Deacon of St. Martins Baptist Church for over 40 years. He represented the Village of St. Martins as the Town Crier for 20 years and was also Honorary Town Crier for Shipston-on-Stour Warwickshire, England. During this time, he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling the world representing their community. He was a 50+ year member of the St. Martins Masonic Lodge F&AM #30, where he served as the youngest Grand Master in the Province of New Brunswick. He belonged to the NB Antique Auto Car Club, the Atlantic Chapter of The Studebaker Drivers Club, and the Valley Cruisers Car Club, and was a member of the Kennebecasis Crime Stoppers. The Annual St. Martins Old Home Week festivities, of which he was a founding member, was a special time for Lester and Phyllis, as they were involved in the organization for many years. He was well known for being the Master of Ceremonies at numerous events in the community, which also provided another opportunity for his real joy in life, telling one story after another so long as he had an audience. Prior to St. Martins acquiring an ambulance, Lester would transport many patients to the hospital in the back of his station wagon with a basket stretcher along with fellow volunteers. In their retirement years, Lester and Phyllis enjoyed traveling to many car shows and discussing his passion for antique cars, taking great pride in displaying his 1930 Model A, 1961 Studebaker Hawk, and 1964 Studebaker Commander. He spent 13 months meticulously restoring a 1952 Ford 8N Farm Tractor, while enjoying the company of many friends and family who followed the progress of the project. Along with his wife and children, Lester is survived by 14 grandchildren: Jackie (Richard), Scott (Courtneay), Jenna (Justin), Jamie (Vanessa), William, Katrina (Tyler), Jani (Jamie), Joseph (Samantha), Jillisa (Cody), Dustin, Laura (Curtis), Aly, Stef, and Hudson; and 8 great-grandchildren: Jocelyn, Izzy, Bryton, Quinn, Ava, Emmett, Jack, and Desmond. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn "Evie" Brown and brother in law, John (Wanda) Brown. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers David, Hudson, and Wesley, and a sister Lucinda "Cindy". Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main St. Hampton., Visitation will be held at St. Martins Baptist Church, 211 Main St, St. Martins, Thursday, January 18th, 2018, 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday January 19th 2018, 2:00-8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held from St. Martin’s Baptist Church at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 20th, 2018. Spring Burial will be in St. Martins Community Cemetery. Donations in memory of Lester may be made to the St. Martins Baptist Church or Loch Lomond Village Music Therapy Program.
