Obituary of Dorothy Clayton
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Evelyn Clayton, age 78, wife of Eugene Clayton, announces her death which occurred on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 19, 1938, in St. Martins, NB, a daughter of the late Graydon and Dora (Brown) Gillcrist.
Dorothy was an avid bingo player. Life-long Blue Jays fan and enjoyed watching the game of baseball with her family and friends. She served as the vice-president of the St. Martins Seniors group for a number of years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eugene; daughters Cindi Clayton of Saint John, NB, Amanda Clayton (Naresh) of Saint John, NB; sons Rodney Clayton (Darlene) of Saint John, NB, James Clayton (Sue) of St. Martins, NB, Jody Clayton (Jolene) of Saint John, NB; grandchildren Brittany Clayton, Jenna Mcbriarty, Daniel Clayton, Hannah Clayton, Carter Clayton, Madison Clayton, Cody Mcnairn, Kyla Mcgrath, Ben Mcnairn; great-grandchild Olivia LaRocque; sisters Jessie Bennett, Audrey Stewart, Mildred Dupere; brothers Murray Gillcrist, Bill Gillcrist, Ward (Shirley) Gillcrist; sister-in-laws Roberta Gillcrist, Elsie Gillcrist, Barb Clayton, Janet Clayton, Lynn Cyr; her best friend for many years Sandra Steele, as well as several nieces, nephews and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Sherwood; brothers Harvey, Roy, Lawrence, Clayton and Doug.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9PM from St. Martins Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00AM from St. Martins Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dennis Sisco. Interment will be held at Mosher Hill Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Luan Le, the nurses of 3CS and 3BN Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the care given to Dorothy.
