Obituary of Thomas Hudson

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Andrew Hudson, formerly of Hampton, announces his death which occurred on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Rocmaura Nursing Home in Saint John, NB. Born on November 2, 1929 in South Shields, England, he was a son of the late Harry & Gertrude (Jacobsen) Hudson. Tom was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Hudson (Cooke). Tom will be missed by his daughter, Debbie Otis (Phillip) of Sussex, son Ian (Lori) of Grand Bay-Westfield, grandchildren Jessica and Matthew Starkey and Wesley and Abigail Hudson and very close friends, Chris and Tina Bainbridge. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, and loved to see them all graduate from high school and start their lives as young adults. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in England, British Columbia and Malaysia. Tom was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, Tom is predeceased by his sisters, Gertie Douglas, Ida Rhodes and Sarah Hudson; Brothers Harry, Fred, Bob and Ken. Tom was a shipbuilder by trade and worked in the many dry docks in North England before coming to Canada in 1976 with Betty and their children. It was a lifelong dream of Tom’s to move to Canada and when he had the chance to work at Saint John Shipbuilding for a six month contract he jumped at it. From there it was a dream come true when he and Betty immigrated to Canada. He started at the Dry Dock as steel fitter and then a foreman in the modular shop during the frigate program. He retired in 1993 from the planning department. Tom’s favourite pastime was woodworking. He loved working with his hands and was often found in the basement working on the many pieces that will be cherished by his family. Tom is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton. Visitation will be on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6-8 PM. As per Tom’s request there will be a private funeral at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the excellent care Tom received while he was a resident there.
