Obituary of Marjorie Wishart

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die" – Thomas Campbell With sadness and celebration of a life well lived, the family of Marjorie Florence Wishart, age 95, of Hampton, NB, announces her death which occurred on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Chateau de Champlain, Saint John, NB. She was born in Marystown, NL, on May 9, 1922, wife of the late William "Art" Wishart and a daughter of the late Rennie and Maud (Mitchell) Riggs. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Marilyn Campbell and her husband James of Rothesay, NB; son Donald Wishart and his wife Sarah of Halifax, NS; grandchildren David (Sunny), Ben, Megan (Jonathan), Graeme (Jean); great-grandson Bentley, several very close cousins and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by her brother John "Jack" Riggs. At the age of four and upon the death of her mother, Marjorie was moved to Grand Bank, NL. After completing Business School at the age of seventeen, she was employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia, Grand Bank, NL and five years after was transferred to St. John’s, NL. It was there she met and married Arthur Wishart, a co-worker. For twenty-seven years they lived in several communities in Newfoundland and New Brunswick. Marjorie took an active part in her community affairs, serving usually as secretary or treasurer in organizations such as Red Cross, Home & School Association, Curling Clubs and Golf Clubs. She was District Commissioner for Girl Guides, starting new groups in two communities. After she and her husband moved to Hampton in 1980, her activities centred around the United Church where she was Clerk of Session and a member of the Board for a few years. It took a village to tend and care for our much beloved mother. We would like to acknowledge and to extend our deepest heartfelt gratitude to: management and staff of Chateau Champlain, the wonderful caring and compassionate staff of Joan's home care and to the dedicated nurses from Extra Mural Saint John. All of which allowed our mother to remain independent right to the end, as was her wish. We are forever grateful. She is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, with visitation on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Kelly Hudson-Lewis, will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM from Hampton United Church, followed by interment in the Hampton Rural Cemetery. Donations in memory of Marjorie may be made to the Extra Mural Program or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
