Obituary of Jim Simpkins

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of James "Jim" Tod William Simpkins, age 80, of Hampton, announces his death which occurred on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born on August 15, 1936 in Sunnybrae, NB, he was the son of the late John and Bertha (Colbourne) Simpkins. Jim had spent his life as an employee from CNR and most recently Via Rail Canada. Many people may remember a hard working plumber and pipefitter who had spent his retirement in service to the community as a lifelong member of the Hampton Lions Club. He worked on special projects that he felt were important such as volunteering with Safe Grad yearly in association with Hampton High School. Jim leaves behind to mourn his loving wife of 59 years, Carol (Hirtle) Simpkins; children: James Simpkins and his wife Georgie Mae of Saint John, NB, Shelley Redfurn and her husband Curtis of Hampton, NB, Lynne Downey and her husband (Paul) of Mt. Pearl, NL, and Alan Simpkins and his wife (Cathy) of Charters Settlement, NB; grandchildren: Shannon, Adam, Justin, Ryan, Tyler, Sheldon, Christopher, Melissa and Ashley; great grandchildren: Logan, Anna Mae, Chloe, Jace and Leah; sisters: Shirley Howatt and her husband Jack of Moncton, NB, and Carol Anne Eddy of Victoria, BC; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his granddaughter Jennifer Redfurn. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton where visitation will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Atlantic Community Church, Hampton. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, NB. The family would like to express a special thank you to Jim’s extended family, Faye and Wayne Fraser and Donald and Delores Hirtle who have provided love, support and comfort. Also a special recognition to his special friends in the community, to the nurses and doctors that were involved with his care and to the staff of Reid’s Funeral Home for all their guidance and support. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Atlantic Community Church or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
