Obituary of Helen Babineau
It is with great sadness, the family of Sophie "Helen" Babineau, age 94, of Hampton, NB, announces her passing which occurred on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Riverdale Manor Seniors Home. She was born on February 23, 1923 in Tabusintac, NB, a daughter of the late Elwyn and Martha (Leaman) Coates.
She was a member of the Hampton United Church and was active in the UCW. She was also a member of the Historical Society and the WI. After her husband’s death, she became a homemaker for many. She spent many years caring for Murray Hanlon and on his passing moved on to Dolly Bettle. Helen and Dolly moved into the Dr. V. A. Snow Apartments soon after its opening. Helen remained there until a short time ago. While there she was a volunteer and a caring friend to many residents of the nursing home. Helen was a very compassionate and patient person. She had many friends including Eleanor Kaye and Gloria Isreal who looked after drives to appointments and also took her on pleasure rides.
Helen is survived by her sisters-in-law: Pauline Haslett and Isabel Coates; close friends Helen Bettle and Shirley Bettle and her husband Harold; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Babineau; brothers Ronald, Allison, Murray and Horace; sister Doreen Beechin; and sisters-in-law Mary Coates and Leah Coates.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, (506) 832-5541. As per Helen’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service held. A graveside service will take place in the spring at Hampton Rural Cemetery.
