Obituary of John Reed

With deep regret the family announces the passing of John Edward Reed which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 25, 2017. He was born in Saint John, NB on May 22, 1953 and was the son of Leslie Scribner and the late Frances (Fairbrother) Scribner. John grew up in the south end of Saint John and then moved to Nauwigewauk as a teenager. This would become his home and he returned there after spending time living in Fredericton and Ottawa. During those fifteen years he was happy to make his living playing the music he loved. He played many styles but drumming for a jazz combo at a local pub was a dream come true. He also worked for many years in all aspects of the restaurant business and seventeen years as a contractor for Canada Post He was always ready to discuss politics, philosophy or history. His interests also included photography, movies, drawing, gardening, cooking and astronomy. He loved nature with a great respect for all life. He always kept the bird feeders full and seemed to have a special rapport with horses. He was kind and compassionate, a spiritual seeker who loved his friends and family. John is survived by his wife Ruth Reed; son Angus Reed; father Leslie Scribner; niece Candice (Aaron) Hanna and nephew Scott Reed; as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his mother Frances (Fairbrother) Scribner and brother Doug Reed. Arrangements are in the care of Reid's Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB (506) 832-5541where visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.
