Obituary of Roy McDonald

It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Alwyn McDonald, age 90, of St. Martins, NB, announces his death which occurred on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 15, 1926 in Burchill Mountain, NB, he was a son of the late Gilford and Alberta (Davidson) McDonald. After leaving high school, Roy worked in the line of Forestry in many different capacities over the years. After graduating from the Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1957, Roy worked with the Department of Natural Resources and Energy as a forest ranger for over 31 years, retiring in 1989. He also served a year on the municipal council in St. Martins. Roy loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, antique cars, and his special friend "Charlie" the cat. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce McDonald; daughters: Deborah (Bill) Campbell of St. Martins, Heather McAulay (Brad Shaw) of Barnesville, NB, and Angela (Patrick) Markwell of Plant City, FL; sons: Willard (Cynthia) MacDonald of St. Martins, NB, and Eldon (Peggy) MacDonald of Rothesay, NB; grandchildren: Beth Rose (Mark), Lana Campbell, Mindy Hiebert (Brent), Ryan MacDonald, Pamela MacDonald, Dakota MacGougan (Matt Jones), Alexander MacDonald, Justin McAulay (Amanda Munn) and Justin Markwell; great grandchildren: Seth and Mason; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his sisters: Lillian Smith, Muriel King, Mabel Washburn, Mildred Langille, Gladys Burchill, Inez King, Alma Gillcrist and Alice Brown; brothers Clifford and Eldon MacDonald; and infant son Gerald Roy MacDonald. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton where all arrangements will be held privately. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Mosher Hill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care, Stoneybrook Stray and Feral Cat Rescue or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
