Obituary of Thelma Reicker

It is with great sadness that the family of Thelma Marietta Reicker, age 86, of Sussex, NB, announces her death which occurred on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on November 23, 1929, in Kars, NB, she was a daughter of the late Manford and Annie Mildred (Henderson) Reicker. Thelma enjoyed many nights playing bingo with the girls. More recently she would enjoy watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She also had a puzzle set up on a table at any given time over the last 20 years or so. She enjoyed going for drives whether it was on some old road or just going to town and back. Her favorite drives were to the homestead (the farm as it was always referred to) in Kars. Every year she would make her way to Grand Manan and drive around her mother’s homestead, always bringing back a bag or two of dulse to share with those who liked it. Visiting family was always a highlight as she loved to see family and friends anytime. Small children would always bring a quick smile and chuckle to Thelma’s face. After attending Belleisle Bay School she tended house and looked after children for several families. She moved to Saint John and looked after the Purdy family on Garden Street where she later helped run the Purdy store for 20 years. From there she became an employee of Baxter’s, working in Accounts Payable for 22 years, until her retirement in 1996. Returning to Kars in 2015, she resided at the Bayview Care Home where every day she could look out her window and see the beautiful Belleisle Bay. A special thank you to the staff of the Bayview Care Home for the care given to Thelma while she was there. Thelma is survived by her brothers: Roland (Shirley) Reicker of Belyea’s Cove, NB, John M. (Ann) Reicker of Saint John, NB, and William (Mary) Reicker of Moncton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her brothers Les and Roy Reicker; and infant sister Rowena Reicker. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton where visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 4 to 8PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 1:00PM from Reid’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Orange Cemetery, Kars, NB. Donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the Orange Cemetery or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
