It is with sadness the family of David Edward O’Leary, age 76, of Bloomfield, NB, husband of Shirley O’Leary, announces his death, which occurred on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on January 12, 1940 in Saint John, NB, a son of the late Andrew and Jessie (Humby) O’Leary. Dave was a well-loved father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his ingenuity and his amazing memory of historical facts, but mostly his off-beat sense of humour and wit. If you asked him for a fact from a book, he could tell you where it was, page and paragraph. If something was broken, he could fix it (or build a reasonable facsimile). Dave loved animals and birds, especially Maximus and Bodacious. He spent a lot of time freezing in rinks and sweating in gyms watching his grandchildren in their many activities. Dave was well versed on World War II and the genealogy of the O'Leary family, he was also known to catch an old Elvis or opera video on YouTube. He will be missed. Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years Shirley; sons Chris (Kelly) O’Leary of Southfield, NB, Aaron (Katie) O’Leary of Bloomfield, NB, John (Mary) O’Leary of Hartland, NB; daughters Leanne Carson of Bloomfield, NB, Bridget (Cory) Sprague of Norton, NB, Kate (Bret) Folkins of Pearsonville, NB; grandchildren Evan, Morgan, Marcus, Hannah, Scott, Connor, Nick, Ava, Shannon, Fiona, Ian, Cullan, Elliot, Reese, Braelee, Lydia, Marie, Isaac; great grandchild Bently; brother Brian (Lynne) O’Leary of Willow Grove, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his son Ian O’Leary. He is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, with visitation on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 11:00am from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Saint John, NB. Donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Parkinson Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
