Obituary of Alfreda Holland

After a life well lived, Alfreda Jean Holland, age 95, of St. Martins, NB, wife of the late Bill Holland (1998), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, Hampton, NB, with her grandson Troy at her bedside. She was born on December 4, 1920, in St. Martins, NB a daughter of the late Ira D. and Mable (Collins) Hopey. Alfreda is survived by her daughters Elaine Baxter of Fredericton, NB, Beverly Loughrey-Smith of Quispamsis, NB, Billie Jo (W. Don) Whyte of FL; grandchildren Curtis (Karyn), Katrina (Rob), Carmen (Michael), Gail (Shawn), Troy (Lisa), Tamara (Brian); great grandchildren Adam (Jessika), William, Rochelle, Josh, Andrew, Alex, Colin; great-great granddaughter Aubrey; sister Myrtle MacDonald; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Alfreda was predeceased by her great granddaughter Rebecca; son-in-law Ernest Baxter; sister Elizabeth Morrell; brothers Walter, Harry, Clarence and Percy. Alfreda was a lifelong resident of St. Martins where she and her husband raised their three daughters. She was an active member in her community, which included being a member of St. Martins Baptist Church, past Mistress of Fundy L.O.B.A. # 1190, St. Martins, past president of the Senior Citizens Dairy Zone, past president of St. Martins Senior Citizens Club, past president of St. Martins Historical Society, she was a life member of both the Provincial and Federal Progressive Conservative Party, an honourary member of the Grand Lodge of NB L.O.B.A. , received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and past president of Quaco Crafts. Alfreda will be remembered for her involvement and love of her community. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Visitation will be held from St. Martins Baptist Church on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM and Friday from noon to 2 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM from St. Martins Baptist Church, followed by interment at St. Martins Community Cemetery. Donations in memory of Alfreda may be made to St. Martins Baptist Church or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
