Green passed away on July 22 at Rocmaura Nursing Home following complications of pneumonia. Ella had resided in Garden Court for the past eleven years. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday Sept. 11. She was born in Tabusintac, NB, the oldest daughter of Benjamin and Eliza (Wishart) Harding. She was educated in the "English school" in her community and after graduation, went to work in Rothesay, NB at the Netherwood School for Girls. There she met and married Cecil Cosman and began her full time career as a mom. When she was left with the eight children to raise on her own, she didn’t give up. She found strength and with the help of her older children, family and friends, she kept the family together. Her life changed when she met and married Frank Green. For the first time she had someone to take care of her. Following Frank’s retirement, they moved back to Tabusintac to the old home stead. She had a good life in "Tabi" connecting once again with her friends and family members. She was active in St. Andrews United Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the UCW. She was a board member of the Tabusintac Nursing Home. She enjoyed her winters in Tarpon Springs, Florida but always looked forward to getting home to start her gardening. After her beloved Frank died, she found it too difficult to live in such a remote area, so decided to move closer to family. She took up residence in Halifax NS and began another chapter in her life, once again making new friends and joining a new church family at Fairview United Church. After experiencing health issues in 2001, she moved back to NB where she had more family support. When her care became more than family could provide, she moved into Rocmaura Nursing Home. In the early years in Garden Court, she was active and able to attend the many programs offered by the recreation department. She especially loved the music, visits by the children and bingo games. She enjoyed outings with her children and grandchildren and the many treats they would bring in. Ella loved chicken, cheddar cheese and frozen yogurt. In the last few years, although she didn’t participate in as many of the social events, she continued to love family visits and her treats. Throughout her life, family, church and hard work were important to Ella. With every seed she planted or every flower she tended to, she would talk to them, encouraging them to grow strong and beautiful. It worked with her children as well. She offered encouragement throughout our lives and has instilled in her children these values. Ella will be missed by all who knew her, especially her beautiful smile. How fitting to have a poem that sums up the true value of this great ladies life. mothers garden My Mother kept a garden, a garden of the heart, She planted all the good things that gave my life it's start. She turned me to the sunshine and encouraged me to dream, Fostering and nurturing the seeds of self-esteem... And when the winds and rain came, she protected me enough-- But not too much because she knew I'd need to stand up strong and tough. Her constant good example always taught me right from wrong-- Markers for my pathway that will last a lifetime long. I am my Mother's garden. I am her legacy- And I hope today she feels the love reflected back from me Author unknown
