It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Wayne Hopey announce his passing, husband of Sharron (Friars) Hopey, of Quispamsis, NB, which occurred on Monday, September 28, 2015, at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John,NB, at the age of 74. He was born on February 19, 1941 at St. Martin’s, NB, the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Wilson) Hopey. Donald worked as a member of the Saint John Police Force from 1964-1974, Mechanic for the City of Saint John from 1974-1984 and was a Mechanical Foreman for the City of Saint John from 1984-1996. He was noted as a man of integrity. Donald is survived by his wife Sharron; daughters Faith Cormier (Carl) of Saint John, NB and Jill Hopey (Chris Rose) of Sussex, NB; son Jeffrey Hopey (Heather) of Rothesay, NB; sister Deanna Bonvie of Darthmouth, NS; brother Errol Hopey (Shirley) of Saint John, NB; special niece Carla Stalbe of Darthmouth, NS; special niece Sherry Stanton of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, special sister-in- law Isabel (SA); several stepbrothers; eight grandchildren, Celia, Devon, Surfil, Adrian, Stephanie, Jessica, Jake and Hope and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a step-sister and step-mother Irene Reid Hopey. In keeping with Donald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, is entrusted with arrangements. No visitation will take place; however, a memorial service will be held on Friday October 2, 2015 at 11:00am at Hammond Valley Community Church, Smithtown with Rev. Jim Rushton officiating. The family would like donations to be made in loving memory of Donald Hopey to the Hammond Valley Community Church Building Fund.
