Obituary of Laurence Trueman Mott

It is with great sadness that the family of Laurence Trueman Mott announce his passing which occurred on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Springfield, NB on December 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Myles and Violet (Sprague) Mott.

Laurence loved playing golf and it was a lifelong hobby for him over the years. He was instrumental in the beginning stages of the Hampton Golf Club and was a founding member of the club. He was great with a chainsaw and cutting wood and was always known to be wheelin' and dealin' with his wood. During his working career, he was well-rounded and spent years driving truck, working as a longshoreman, a home builder and at the lumber camps. Laurence was also well known for his shark like skills when playing cards with friends. He also enjoyed curling when he wasn't golfing and was always active, even into his late nineties. 

Laurence is survived by his sons: Laurie Mott of Hampton, NB, David Mott of Hampton, NB, Malcolm Mott of Strathmore, AB and Darren Mott of Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Christine Mott and Patrick Mott; great grandchildren: Rebecca Reid (Brendan) and Evan Mott; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Laurence was predeceased by his wife Mary Mott (Evans); and daughter Joan Mott.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Saint John Regional Hospital 3CS as well as the Palliative Care Unit for their care given to Laurence during his time there. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, where visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4 to 7PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00AM from Reid’s Funeral Home chapel.
