My personal condolences to the Hanlon and Hourihan Families - united by Mary and "Jim". Both very much admired over the 30+ years I have known them... When somone says "Quen Mary", most think of a huge ship from the UK, but my take is immediately of Mary, as the Queen of Urologic Surgery, right here in southern New Brunswick. A friend in the medical world (Greg S.) reminded me, that Mary was widely known as "the Best Urologist" in the province. How can one value a Nursing colleague from a surgeon's perspective? How about, the same way one evaluatesa physician? My former Boss /mentor said "the 4 A's": Is she/he Affable, Able, Available, Adaptable? Mary was always an earnest and caring advocate for patients and all levels of co-workers. The confidence she imparted was immeasurable. (And from a distance, it was easy to see that she was, as well, the paragon of Motherhood). As for ability, I cannot think of any Nurse better in the Operating. When thinking of a "tool" to use, Mary had it/them in her hand(s) to give you before the asking... And always available - at any time and willingly. Mary was adaptable to new technology and techniques. Up to date and at all times, looking to re-educate herself and colleagues. A model and mentor for so many other Nurses - younger or more senior. Liased so well with Medical Reps and visiting Surgeons from other towns and provinces - a true ambassador of Health Care. Life is about Love and the people you meet and follow along the way. I am thankful for the chance to know and work with such a wonderful person. Just lucky ... MJ Morse

Such a warm and compassionate woman. Many times when Mom would cry, Mary would stop and offer words of comfort and gentle touches to Mom. She was a woman that Mom & I took to right away.
