Obituary of Herbert Joseph Day
It is with deep sadness that the family of Herbert Day announces his passing on August 9, 2026, at the Moncton Hospital, Moncton, NB. Born on September 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Laura Main (Despres) and Herbert Day.
Dad is survived by his daughters: Lynn LeBlanc (Emery) of Darlings Island, NB, Carol Gallery (Jim) of Saint John, NB, Frances McConnachie (Graham) of Highfield, NB, Patti Pierce (Brian) of Midland, NB, and his son, Jamie Day (Dianna) of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dana, Sean, Nicole (“Nickel”), Lori Lynn, Sandra, Tiffany, Katie, Michael, Melissa, Sean and Jayden; 21 great-grandchildren, with a new baby arriving soon, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by our mom, Eileen, who was his forever love; his sister Mary and brother-in-law Loyal Price, and his lifelong best friend Tom Sullivan.
Dad was a lifetime member of IBEW Local 502, Saint John, NB, and Local 1555, Moncton, NB.
Sports were a big part of dad’s life. He loved playing and coaching hockey, playing golf, swimming, and playing rugby and football during his school days. He also loved to hunt and fish.
Dad passed those passions down to his kids. He always took us down to the lake to play pond hockey, Fundy to go fishing, and Renforth to go ice fishing. We have memories of dad making us a skating rink every year on our front lawn (flood lights included).
Dad and mom loved camping, and every summer we travelled all over, visiting Florida, Virginia Beach, Fundy, and everyone’s favourite place, Shediac. He gave us a wonderful childhood that we always talk about fondly and will always cherish. Dad loved his kids so much; he was very proud of us all.
He loved hearing about the accomplishments of his grandchildren and always wanted to hear how his great-grandchildren were doing, especially in their sports and school activities.
We will miss his humour and laughter, his big hugs, his wisdom and advice, and his kindness.
Dad, we will always remember you as our big strong dad, who loved us so much, and taught us the life lessons that made us all that we are today.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (129 Route 124, Norton NB). The interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
