Obituary of Donald Arthur Bonnar

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Arthur Bonnar announce his passing which occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Shannex  Embassy Hall, Quispamsis, NB. Born in Upper Gagetown, NB on January 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Ernest and Laura (Lohen) Bonnar.

Don taught electrical in many various places throughout the province. He did volunteer work at the prison in Renous and was always willing to give of himself to others. Don was known to help fellow musicians  get their own start in music and always enjoyed playing and singing along with everyone. He was inducted into the New Brunswick Gospel Hall of Fame in 2003 and also played in the band called the Country Ramblers. In his earlier years, Don also helped perform for a non-denomination Christian service on local cable TV. He went to jam nights about four or five times a week and was always on the move. In 2025, Don was awarded the Pioneer Award from NBCMHF for his many years of dedication to music.

Don is survived by his children: Gregory Bonnar (Dianne) of Hampstead, NB, Terry Beyea (Arthur) of French Village, NB, Kimbal Bonnar (Bev) of Moncton, NB, and Tasha Steeves (Josh) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren: Julie Bennett, Stephen Bonnar, James Keating, Joseph Bonnar, Lucas Bonnar, Collin Beyea and Cory Beyea; great grandchildren: Kylee, Sebastien, Jacoby, Caleb, Noah, Hayden, Zeth, Jolianne, Alexanne and Arianne; sister Pamela Breckenridge; special friend Geraldine Henry; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his wife Sheila Arenburg; daughter Jacqueline Bonnar; great granddaughter Tineisha Chatwin; brothers: Bruce Allen and Robert Bonnar; and sisters: Gertie Whittle, Christine Ferris and Thelma Allen.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 11 to 1pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm all from Reid’s Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Upper Gagetown Cemetery.
