Donald always had a big smile on his face when I would see him at Embassy. I miss it a lot. He had a heart of gold and his passion of music still lingers on. I always looked forward to his stories, hugs, and just seeing him during my shifts. Sending my condolences to Terry and his wonderful family and friends.

To Terry and all of Don's family, Our family sends heartfelt condolences on the passing of your lovely father. We first met Don around 4 years ago when our Dad moved into Concord Hall and they became friends, dinner table partners and neighbours across the hall. They enjoyed sharing snacks and music together as well as conversation. Dad was very happy to listen to Don playing music and we got to hear him as well when he entertained the Concord Hall residents on special occasions. Don was kind, thoughtful and truly had a heart for God. He appreciated every day and shared a welcoming smile with anyone he met in the hallway. We made a point of visiting Don when Dad moved to Embassy Hall and he gladly came over for Dad's birthday parties. All of us girls were delighted to see him. When he saw us in the hallways, his smile would shine warmth and delight. Getting to see Don while going to/from visits with Dad was considered a bonus! We will miss him dearly. The Maya Angelou quote, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." was manifested by Don every day. Hold your memories of Don close. May he rest in Peace and rise in Glory. The family of Francis DeGrace.

Mr Bonnar as I always called him was my shop teacher at NSER in the early 1980's. He was my homeroom teacher my last year of high school. He was a great guy and really good teacher. My condolences to his family. Rest easy Mr. Bonnar.

Sincere condolences to all of Don’s family. We were neighbours on McArthur St. for 35 years, and only Tasha was still at home at this point. Tasha will for sure remember us. Always a kind man with the loveliest of smiles, generous to a fault of his time and talents. He was a valued volunteer at Atlantic Inst in the chapel group, and helped with the annual Salvation Army’s Christmas packages to all inmates (chips, candy, etc.). He also taught for a period in the vocational electronics program in the early days. We moved and lost touch, but will always remember Don for the wonderful human being that he was. Joseph and Lucas Bonnar (grandsons) & Diane Joe and Luke wanted to share a fond memory of their grandfather. We live in Nova Scotia but we were visiting home during the summer when the boys were about 16 and 11 years old. We remember we were to meet him and Nana at a park on the waterfront in Newcastle that was playing music for the afternoon. When we got out of the car there were hundreds of people (mostly elderly) sitting all over the park in chairs; I remember saying, "how are we ever going to find them in this crowd?" I recall Luke remarking that all he could see was a sea of blue hair and bald heads shining in the sun! Then Joe spoke up and he said "there they are way over on the other side of the park". How in the world did he find them! He then said, " I saw an elderly man turn his head and I would recognize Grampie's mutton chops anywhere!" I love that simple story, it stills makes us smile. Don was always so kind to Joe and Luke; we always called him on his birthday, you will be dearly missed.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Don. Don and I first met in 2005 at a jam with his dobro in hand. A pleasant quiet musician with an ability to make other musicians welcome. Don, always a consumate gentleman, regularly attended several open mics to play and sing. Entertaining was his passion. Rest in Peace, my friend.
