Vernon Campbell

Obituary of Vernon Campbell

It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Maurice Campbell announce his passing on Saturday, May 9th, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Harry B and Florence (Goddard) Campbell, born in Hampton, NB on December 23, 1937.

He was proud to be a veteran of 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (RCASC). He spent two tours as a UN Peacekeeper in Alexandria, Egypt. Through his military relocations, he met his beloved wife, Mary Helen (Laliberté) Campbell. Vernon was devoted to her and his children. Upon his military retirement, he retired to Hampton, NB, with his wife to start “Campbell’s Taxi” and after a few years, he started working as a Security Guard for Irving Mill in Sussex. He was a 40-year member of the Hampton Legion Branch 28 often volunteering at their Sunday Breakfasts when they first started. He was a double cancer survivor of more than 10 years.

He is survived by his children Laverne (Mark) Kenny of Carleton Place, ON and Joseph Campbell of Gagetown, NB; his grandchildren: James Buchanan of Oromocto, NB, Anthony Kenny and Matthew Kenny  both of Carleton Place, ON; and his great-grandchildren Mason and Abel; a sister Lyla (Ken) McCrea and a brother William (Barbara) Campbell and several nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he is also pre-deceased by a brother Harry A Campbell.

Joseph and Laverne would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Saint John Regional Hospital and his niece, Heather McCrea, for being there for their dad. As well, they thank his support worker Jennifer Scarlett, his housekeeper Bridgette McCrea, and his sister Lyla; without their help, he would not have been able to stay in his home as long as he did.

There will be no funeral or visitation. A private burial will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
