Obituary of Beverley Keith Fowler

It is with profound sadness that the family of Beverley Keith Fowler announce his passing which occurred surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB on November 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Russell and Mildred (Dodge) Fowler.

Bev was a man who truly embraced life and the people in it. He was especially devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and to his wife of 60 years, Estelle, who he called his “sweetie” and who he absolutely adored.  He was known for his humor, storytelling, and for his willingness to help anyone at any time. He had a natural gift for making others feel welcome and at ease. Whether he was offering a cup of tea, sharing one of his many “Bev-isms,” or simply striking up a conversation, Bev never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t made yet. He was always ready to fix just about anything, from cars to household mishaps, and was always the first person you could count on when something went wrong.

An avid sports enthusiast, Bev remained active in the community for decades. He played hockey himself well into his 70s, a testament not only to his strength, but also to his spirit and passion. He also gave his time generously as an umpire for local ball games and was deeply involved in minor hockey as both a coach and referee. Even after stepping off the ice, he continued to be a familiar face at the rink, collecting admissions and staying connected to the sport he loved.

Bev cherished spending time outdoors. He never missed opening day of duck hunting season, a tradition he shared with his friends for more than 60 years! Mornings in the marsh followed by lunches of steak, laughter, and a well-earned afternoon nap. At home, he spent long hours mowing the yard, blowing snow in the winter, and cutting wood for the fire. He had a well-known sweet tooth especially for pumpkin pie, chocolate cake with boiled frosting, and molasses cookies. After dinner, you could always count on Bev to ask, “what’s for dessert?”

Throughout his life, Bev maintained a wide circle of lifelong friends, friendships going back most of his life. And this is no surprise. He was a loyal friend, who always made time for others, no matter how busy he was. He always had a story to tell, a funny memory, or a witty joke to share; not because he enjoyed attention for himself, but for the joy it brought to those around him. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Bev knew him as a genuinely kind-hearted, warm, and unforgettable person, someone who left a lasting impression and made the world a little brighter simply by being in it.

Bev is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Estelle Fowler of Hampton, NB; children: Kevin Fowler (Mary) of Naples, Florida and Jill Fowler-Tugwell (Geoff) of Smithtown, NB; grandchildren: Daniela, Kyle and Emily; great grandchildren: Fredrik and Benjamin; brother George Fowler of French Village, NB; sisters: Barbara Kilpatrick of Renforth, NB and Betty Curbishley (Frederick) of Saint John, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his family, Bev was predeceased by his son Tony Fowler; and brother-in-law Lorne Kilpatrick.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff and doctors on Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Mackin, Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Fenwick and Dr. Love. The kindness and compassion that was shown towards Bev and his family will not be forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held from 2 to 6pm on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. A private interment will take place at a later date at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Cemetery.
