Obituary of Marie Theresa Thornton
It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Theresa Thornton announce her passing which occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, NB. Born in Saint John, NB on September 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Conway) Pierce.
Marie cherished her roots in Hampton and loved sharing stories from her childhood; from the people she grew up with to the town's rich history.
Her connection to Hampton ran so deep that she returned to raise her own children on the very property where she herself had grown up. She loved her children dearly and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. We will all dearly miss her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Regional Hospital, and to Father Donald Savoie of St. Alphonsus Church in Hampton, who brought her comfort in prayer and peace in her final days
Marie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Keith Thornton of Hampton, NB; children: Angela Thornton of Saint John, NB, Andrea Kikuchi (Masa) of Saint John, NB, Andrew Thornton of Saint John, NB and Amber Thornton of Saint John, NB; grandchildren: Lessa Thornton, Jaxom Thornton, Sam Kikuchi and Lilia Kikuchi; sisters: Margaret Pierce of Edmonton, AB and Gertrude Brown (James) of Saint John, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brothers: William (Donna) Pierce, Robert (Pierrette) Pierce and Harvey “Leonard” (Connie) Pierce.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8th from 4 to 7pm. Mass will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 9th, 2026 from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 22 Church Street, Hampton, NB. A private family interment will take place at a later date at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, Hampton, NB.
