Obituary of Carlie Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carleton “Carlie” Edmund Smith on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at home. Carlie was born in Titusville, NB on November 11, 1937, a son of the late Ronald & Esther (Jones) Smith.

Carlie learned early to work hard and as a young man he worked as an orderly at the Old General Hospital. He married his love Myrna in 1958 and they immediately started growing a large family, often opening their home to extended family. There was always a full house!

Carl worked in the woods most of his life. He loved being outside to work as well as play. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he kept his family fed with the bounty. Picking berries of any kind was another of Carlie’s love, allowing wild strawberry jam a staple at Christmas dinners. He sold Christmas trees for many years at Kings Square in Saint John. As the money came in, Myrna would be there to grab the funds to go Christmas shopping for the kids at the Ideal Store.

They were blessed with seven children who quickly multiplied. Carl & Myrna accepted their children’s spouses as their own. Carl will be remembered by his family for his never-ending love.

We would like to thank the staff at KV Extra Mural for enabling us to keep our dad at home. Also, we would like to thank Brenda, Chardon, Michelle & Xavier for the amazing care they provided our dad in his final months. He came to love you all as his own.

Carlie is survived by his children: Roberta Cook (Rick) of Salt Springs, NB, Diane McGivery (Kevin) of Titusville, NB, David Smith (Kim) of Salt Springs, Kimberly Campbell (Blaine) of  Pumpkin Hill, NB, Peter Smith (Wendy) of Salt Springs, NB, and Terri Smith (Rheal Breau) of Millbrook, NB; his siblings: Yvonne (Jack), Curtis (Linda), Bill (Marlene) , Eddy (Betty), Jerry (Jean), Carol, and Sterling; grandchildren: Natasha, Carla, Tera, Kevin, Mitchell, Cody, Colton, Samantha, Rebecca, Michael, Karleigh, Nathaniel and Hunter; great-grandchildren: Gage, Hannah, Dawson, Jayde, Brooke, Jack, Makayla, Allie, Jayden, Hailey, Skyela, Olivia, Addilyn, Zoey, Rowan, Owen, Kayce and Harper; great-great-grandchildren: Sophie, Melody, Leigha, Riley and Levi; as well as many, many nieces, nephews.

Besides his parents, Carlie was predeceased by his wife Myrna (McEwen) Smith, his son Michael Smith; brothers: Robert “Bobby”, Ronald “Ronnie” and John “Jack”.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB, where the visitation will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 1st at 2:00pm at Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel, with a reception to follow.
