Obituary of John William Johnston
It is with heavy hearts that the family of John “Jack” William Johnston announce his passing which occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, NB. Born on June 2, 1951 in Chatham, NB, he was the son of the late George and Kathleen (Williams) Johnston.
As a young boy, Jack moved to Hampton, NB with the Belamy family and spent the rest of his life there on the Robertson Road. This is where he and Beverly built their family home and raised their family. He worked at the Dry Dock and Saint John Irving Oil Refinery and was a faithful member of the carpenter’s union for 50 plus years. Jack enjoyed his carpentry work and had many proud projects from building homes, to crafting furniture and even toys for his children and grandchildren.
Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his favorite pastime was fly fishing in the Miramichi where he could spend hours on the river. He loved and cherished his family and friends and most of his spare time was spent going on outings with them. This included adventures such as camping, Sunday drives and going on an ATV run.
Jack will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Beverly Johnston of Hampton, NB; children: Brandy Johnston of Saint John, NB, Amanda Johnston (Antti Kahkonen) of Saint John, NB, Melanie Johnston of Harvey, NB, Robert Johnston (Anne Higgins) of Fredericton, NB, Sandie Kierstead (Michael Cooke) of Pocologan, NB and Kelly Kierstead (Matthew Robinson) of Saint John, NB; grandchildren: Samantha, Brandon, Emilie, Kallie, Krisha, Michael, Justin, Lily, Cooper, Savannah and Ryker; great grandchildren: Jaxon, Benjamin, Connor, Harrison, Penelope, Colton and Hudson; brothers: George “Sonny” Johnston (Gloria) of Wasaga Beach, ON, Simon “Gary” Johnston of Kelfield, SK and Reginald Cormier (Angela) of Cambridge, ON; sister Sharon Jensen (Cliff) of Port Alberni, BC; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Johnston.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where the visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10th from 4 to 7PM. The funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. Donations in the memory of Jack may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
