Obituary of Gladys Mae Kellar
It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Mae Kellar announce her passing which occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with her family by her side, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Upham, NB, on April 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late W. Arnold and S. Elizabeth (Sherwood) Kilpatrick.
Gladys was born and raised in Upham and in her early years she was a schoolteacher. She taught many kids in the one room schoolhouse, teaching children only a few years younger than herself at the time. As she put it, she “floated down the river” when she later married the love of her life in 1956, Curtis Kellar, and settled in French Village. They spent their whole lives in French Village, raising their family and enjoying the beautiful countryside. Gladys loved the outdoors, the woods and “chasing the ice flow” out of the Hammond River. She loved her home and her cherished family; she will be dearly missed.
Gladys is survived by her children: John Kellar (Bonnie), Susan Walsh (John), Louise Arseneau (Richard), Andrew Kellar (Evelynn) and David Kellar (Tabitha) all of French Village, NB; brother Leslie Kilpatrick of Upham, NB; lifelong friend Maggie McGillicuddy; as well as many grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband Curtis Kellar; and sons: Walter and Michael Kellar.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from Reid’s Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held in the spring at St. Andrew’s Anglican Cemetery, French Village, NB.
