Obituary of Isobel Strachan Gilmour
It is with great sadness that the family of Isobel Strachan Gilmour announce her passing which occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Greenock, Scotland, on December 27, 1948, she was the daughter of the late John and Jean (Allison) Storie.
Born in Scotland, Isobel made the journey to Canada with her beloved husband, Sam Gilmour, and their daughter, Samantha, to begin a new chapter together. They first settled in Saint John, where their family grew with the birth of their son, Callum. In time, they moved to what would become their favourite place and forever home—Hampton.
Hampton was where Isobel and Sam truly put down roots. They built deep and lasting friendships that went far beyond companionship, becoming a chosen family. Both Isobel and Sam were deeply involved in their church community. Isobel especially cherished her love of music and was immensely proud to sing in the church choir, a joy that brought her both purpose and peace.
Outside of church, Isobel embraced life’s simple pleasures and treasured time spent with family. She loved attending horse shows to watch her children, camping with her grandchildren, and sharing the excitement of NASCAR races alongside Sam, Samantha, and Greg. These moments, filled with laughter and togetherness, were among her happiest.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Samuel Gilmour of Lakeside, NB; daughter Samantha Howe (Greg) of Passekeag, NB; granddaughters: Melissa (Jordan) and Emily (Drake); great granddaughter Sawyer; brother-in-law Jim Gilmour (May); and several extended family in Scotland. In addition to her parents, Isobel was predeceased by her son Callum Gilmour.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the Hampton United Church, 24 Robb Court, Hampton, NB. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Hampton Rural Cemetery, Hampton, NB.
