Obituary of George Allison Goss
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Allison Goss, which occurred on Thursday, September 11th, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death; he will be deeply missed.
Born in Saint John, NB, on December 1st, 1946, George was the son of the late Abram and Marion (Chetley) Goss, and a prolific storyteller of his childhood adventures growing up in West Side Saint John.
Mr. Goss enjoyed a long education career within the Anglophone South School District. He began his career at Prince Charles Junior High School and Saint John High School. Following his M.Ed., he worked in Labrador City before moving back to teach in Hampton for a year.
He spent time at the University of Western Ontario as an instructor, then returned to work in Belleisle and Kingston, NB for 12 years. He then settled in the Hampton area schools, where he worked in vice principal and guidance positions until his retirement in 2008, having positively impacted many young lives.
George spent much of his time volunteering. He was a past member of the Hampton Rotary Club and served on the board of directors of the Saint John Learning Exchange for ten years. He lent his time and carpentry skills to aid in the construction of the Marco Polo replica in Saint John, NB.
George was a lover of motorcycles and Tilley hats, the CBC radio, and artistic endeavours of all kinds (woodworking, carving, carpentry, drawing and painting). He delighted in making homemade doughnuts and hot cross buns, ‘Papa soup,’ and his mother Marion’s rolls, which he often gifted to those who were lucky enough to receive them. His three daughters were his pride and joy. His grandkids loved the many hugs and baby snuggles he so warmly shared.
Like many, George fought a hard battle with cancer. Being the outlier and survivor he was, he bought himself an extra ten years with his family, and, consequently, time to meet and get to know his seven grandchildren. His family thanks his paramedics, and his medical care teams at the Saint John Regional Hospital and Extramural Nursing. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Johnston (George’s surgeon), and his family doctor, Dr. Fenwick, and staff, for the extra time we were given with George.
George is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Christine Goss (Whipple) of Hampton, NB; children Lindsay Currie (John) and their children Rayah and Luke of Halifax, NS, Jennifer Butler (Andrew) and their children, Anna and Allison of Hampton, NB, and Meaghan Goss and her children, Bennett, Eloise, and Claire of Hampton, NB, and their father, Blake Adams; brother David Goss (Donna) of Saint John, NB; sister Barbara Heans (Larry) of Cape Breton, NS; as well as close in-laws, Bob and Trina Whipple, David Whipple, Nancy and Gordon Gaunce, Lorna Whipple, Ian Whipple (Diane); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brother Douglas Goss and sister Shirley Goss; in-laws Bruce and Leah Whipple, Barb and Henry Mowery, Larry Whipple, Claudette Whipple, Geoffrey Foss; and his nephews Tim Goss and Bradley Whipple.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB and will be held privately. Donations in the memory of George may be made to the Bradley Michael Whipple Memorial Bursary (UNB), the Hampton Food Basket, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
