Obituary of Lorraine Sutton

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorraine Evelyn Sutton announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB.  Born in Sussex, NB, on September 10th, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Evelyn (Vail) Brown.

Lorraine grew up in Belleisle Creek where she went to school. She got married to George in 1968 and they started their family a few years later in Hampton. Lorraine raised her three children in the same house on Main Street where her and George spent their whole lives. After Carrie was born, she joined the local chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. This tight knit group of women would become an important part of her life as she remained a member for almost 40 years. She worked at the local branch of the Scotia Bank for 20 years and enjoyed seeing faces from the community every day. In 2002 her first grandson was born, and she was absolutely “over the moon”.  She was blessed with 3 more grandsons, and the role of grandmother brought her an immense sense of joy.  She loved being “Grammy”. Lorraine would want to be remembered fondly as a loving wife, a selfless mother, a deeply connected sister, and a proud and doting grandmother.

Lorraine is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, George Sutton; her children: Jeffrey Sutton (Stephanie) of Yellowknife, NWT, David Sutton (Hwa Jeong Lee) of Calgary, AB and Carrie Doherty of Hampton, NB; grandchildren: Caden, Brennen, Alex, and Logan; sister, Wanda Foster (Brian) of Hampton, NB; sisters in law: Marilyn Sutton of Saint John, NB and Evelyn Sutton of Queenstown, NB; brother-in-law Daryl Sutton (Irene) of Saint John, NB, as well as many extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her son-in-law, Roy Doherty, brother-in-law Bob Sutton (Amy) and sister-in-law Shirley Balaban.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where a visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A private family interment will take place at Hampton Rural Cemetery.
