Obituary of Jack Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Henry Smith on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He passed away quickly after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Jack was born in Upham, NB on April 2, 1939. He was the 3rd born of 11 children, growing up on a farm with his late parents Ronald & Esther Smith. A brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who brought so much love and joy to our lives.

Jack was a devoted family man. A loving husband of 65 years to his wife Dorothy “Dot”, his children: John (Noreen) of Hampton, NB, Brenda (Pete) of Alymer, ON, Kevin (Kelly) of Calgary, AB, and Tracy of Titusville, NB; his grandchildren: Amanda (Andy), Jonathan, Jeff, Krista (Craig), Jacqueline, Megan (Sean) and Mitchel, along with 8 great grandchildren; his siblings: Carlie, Yvonne (Jack), Curtis (Linda), Bill (Marlene) , Eddy (Betty), Jerry (Jean), Carol, and Sterling. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers Robert “Bobby” and Ronald “Ronnie”.

Jack was the kindest person you could ever meet and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was an avid Christian and loved to talk to anyone about the Lord and prayed for his family, friends, and church family constantly. He was known for the unconditional love of his family, and especially for his love for Jesus. He worked in construction as a carpenter most of his life and could run circles around the young fellas any day.

Jack was a true inspiration to us all. He taught us the value of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family. His memory will live on in our hearts. “To know him, was to love him”. We all look forward to the day when he will open his eyes to meet the Lord and his family again.

A special THANKS to all the staff at the VA Snow Centre for all their love and care. The family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to their sister-in-law Noreen Smith, for always being there for Jack. She is like one of his daughters and he loved her very much.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB, where the visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a reception following the service. Interment will take place at Barnesville Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery, Barnesville, NB (1178 Route 820, Barnesville, NB) following the reception, and all are welcome to attend.
