Obituary of George Brown
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George David Brown, which occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Guysborough Co, Nova Scotia, on April 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Mitchell) Brown.
George attended the Northeastern School of Broadcasting in Boston, Massachusetts. He was employed by CHSJ in Saint John, New Brunswick in the early 60’s where he starred in his own children’s show as “Captain Corky.” George was a large personality working as a Manager and Salesman for a variety of companies such as Auto Trader, Kings County Record, Kings County Cable, Photo Shopper and the Department of Transportation. He was also an entrepreneur and opened one of the first clothing stores in the Hampton Mall called “Threads N Treads.”
He was an active member of the Hampton Community. He was a Village Councillor, Director of the Community Center, President of the Hampton Rifle and Pistol Club as well as an Auxiliary Member of the Hampton RCMP for 17 years. He was previously a Co-Chairman of the St. Alphonsus Church Council. He is now a devout member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Upham, NB. He also ventured to the town of Sussex to share his skills as the Town Crier and took on the starring role as the official Santa Claus for many parades.
George was a Jack of all Trades. His interests included photography, woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, automotive repair and welding. He acquired his knowledge through trial and error until he acquired mastery of a skill. His joy was to buy, sell and barter to get the best possible deal. He was a mentor who happily shared his knowledge with anyone that had a desire to learn or was in need.
