Obituary of Carol Esther Simpkins

It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Esther Simpkins announce her passing which occurred on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Sunny Brae, NB, on June 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Lillian (Forbes) Hirtle.

Carol is survived by her children: Jamie Simpkins (Georgie Mae) of Saint John, NB, Shelley Redfurn (Curtis) of Saint John, NB, Lynne Downey (Paul) of Mount Pearl, NL and Alan Simpkins (Cathy) of Moncton, NB; brother Donald Hirtle of Moncton, NB; sister Faye Fraser (Wayne) of Quispamsis, NB; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carol is predeceased by her husband James “Jim” Simpkins; sister Marilyn Hirtle; granddaughter Jennifer Redfurn; and sister-in-law Dolores Hirtle.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 4 to 7PM. The funeral service will take place at 11:00AM on Friday, April 25, 2025 from Reid’s Funeral Home chapel. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, NB.
