Obituary of Donald Mackay
The family of Donald Simon Mackay announce his peaceful passing with family by his side on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the Dr V.A. Snow Centre, Hampton NB. Don was born March 8, 1937 in Joliffs Brook, NB, a son of the late Douglas and Vesta (Goggin) Mackay.
Don is survived by his wife, Patricia (Jardine), daughter, Mary Ann (Hart Devitt), grand-daughters Alexandra and Lauren; son Simon Andrew “Sam” (Kim), grand-son Cory; sister, Barbara Campbell (Nev); sister-in-law, Barbara Jardine, and nephews Mike, Dan and Andy. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother-in-law David Jardine.
After graduating as a mechanical engineer from UNB in 1960, Don went on to start his own consulting engineering firm and spent more than 50 years in a career he loved.
An active member of the community, he was an auxiliary RCMP member for 35 years, town council member for 10 years and served on boards of directors including the Dr V. A. snow Centre, NB Construction Association, and the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation.
Don was an active parish member of St Paul’s Anglican Church and served in many leadership roles. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage, and he was a past President of the Saint Andrews Society of Saint John.
When he wasn’t travelling with his wife he could be found floating on the Belleisle Bay or skiing at Poley Mountain with his grandson. Among his many travels a favourite was to visit his grand-daughters and family in Australia.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. A funeral service will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (486 Kennebecasis River Rd, Hampton, NB) on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 11:00am. A reception will follow at the church. Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre – Hope Garden (a place that Don enjoyed) or the memorial of the donor’s choice.
