Obituary of Scott Seely
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Seely on March 3, 2025, after a brief, valiant battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his devoted wife, children and loving family at Bobby’s Hospice. Scott was born July 17, 1959, the eldest son of the late Frederick “Ted” and Shirley (Scott) Seely.
Scott was a proud employee of JD Irving for 38 years in the IT division. Scott enjoyed the lifelong relationships that he made with his colleagues. Scott grew up in Hampton most of his life, doing everything he could outdoors and participating in all available sports. Scott grew up playing pond hockey at the Hampton Marsh and eventually played on several competitive men's leagues in Southern New Brunswick. Scott was one of the founding members of the Moosehead Pale Ale tournament hockey team for 30 years. Yearly hockey and golf tournament trips to Hermon Meadows, PEI and Montreal were many of his life joys. Part of these trips included his many lifelong friends. Scott began waterskiing in the Belleisle. This created a passion for waterskiing that evolved into him being the major organizer for the 1985 Canada Games. Not only did Scott compete at a national level, but he became a world-level judge, officiating at the 1986 World Water Ski Championships in Australia.
From a very young age, Scott declared himself to be the #1 Habs fan of all time! Guy LaFleur (#10) was his hockey idol! In November, Scott was able to live out one of his bucket list items! He attended a Habs game with Paulette, Adam, and Taylor. He sat behind the bench, went to the morning practice and was given team merchandise that will be cherished forever by his family!
As a loving father, Scott was Taylor‘s #1 fan when she began her dancing career. He was a Dance Dad extraordinaire. In his devoted dad style, he also accompanied and supported Adam at 2 Video Game conventions in Austin, Texas. Scott was always proud and encouraging of Adam and Taylor, with whatever interests they chose.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Paulette (Vey) Seely of Saint John, NB; children: Adam and Taylor Seely of Saint John, NB; brother Shawn Seely (Jennifer) of Erb’s Cove, NB; sister, Sheri Mersereau (Jay) of Saint John, NB; sisters-in-law: Elaine Danahy and Joanne MacMillan; brother-in-law Robert Vey (Barb); nieces and nephews: Justin, Trevor, Stephanie, Morgan, Alyssa, Nicole, Lorri, Christopher, Michael, Tabatha, Scott & Kendra.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 1:00pm.
