Obituary of Margaret Evelyn Burrell Cook

It is with great sadness the family of Margaret Evelyn Burrell Cook announce her death, which occurred on January 27, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Toronto, ON, on February 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy (Locke) Rorke.

Marg was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness and passion for life touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her children: Glenda MacLean, Lynn Knodell (Stephen) and Charlie Cook (Jill) all of Rothesay, NB; grandchildren: Chantal, Sarah, Zachery, Caleb, Chloe, and Anna-Claire; sister Elizabeth Young (Mike) of Ontario; as well as many extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Marg is predeceased by her loving husband Archie Cook; brother Douglas Rorke; and son-in-law Ian MacLean.

After training at Toronto Teacher’s College, Marg spent many years fostering a love of learning and making a lasting impact on her students. She taught high school in Summerside before Glenda came along and she was a supply teacher at Glen Falls and Forest Hills schools. As her children grew up, she returned to teaching full time at Rothesay Baptist Christian School.

She found joy in an active life throughout the years. In high school, she was an avid badminton player, gymnast and cheerleader. She trained as a lifeguard and swimming instructor spending summers at a camp in the Muskokas and continuing with her love of swimming and water sports throughout her entire life. She took up golf later in life, even winning a trophy at Riverside Golf and Country Club.

Nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her children and cherished grandchildren. Together they created beautiful memories; crafting, playing and savoring days on the shores of the Belleisle Bay.

In retirement she and her beloved husband Archie made many great memories in the Sowers program, having adventures in the southern states doing volunteer work together.

Marg leaves behind a legacy of warmth and love and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life; a loving husband, and a close circle of sons, daughters and grandchildren. She always said her greatest desire in life was to be a mother and grandmother.

She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Friday, January 31st from 3 to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 from Reid’s Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Erbs Cove Baptist Cemetery, Erbs Cove, NB.
