Obituary of Hubert Thomas
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hubert Thomas announce his passing which occurred on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, on May 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Elmer and Ida “Ella” (McRae) Thomas.
In his younger years, Hubert grew up in Musquash and attended Lorne School as well as Alexandre, Fairville, Milledgeville and Princess Elizabeth in 1949 in its opening year. Hubert worked at Hobbs Glass which then became Pittsburgh Glass and finally Arrow Glass. He took his experience there and started his own company, Thomas Glass, in 1967 with the support of his family.
Hubert left us a rich legacy of love and a lifetime of lessons. He certainly accomplished a great deal in his 89 years “a Jack of all Trades master of none”. His proud moments were spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who gave him so much pride and joy.
He was a loving, caring, sharing man who supported everyone without judgment. His great sense of humor and contagious little grin will never be forgotten, his many gatherings with friends and family and building his famous bonfires will be forever cherished.
He never stopped working and his many passions included fishing, hunting, picking fiddleheads, gardening, making bundles of kindling wood and always tinkering around the yard. He loved spending time at his camp in Musquash, at his daughter’s property in Kingston, and going on fishing trips with his son.
Hubert is survived by his children: Judy Bond (Glenn Jackson) of Hampton, NB and Robert Thomas (Kandy) of Sussex Corner, NB; grandchildren: Robin Floyd (Rick Bowland) and her children Marcia and Carter, Fallon Thomas (Nathan Mullin) and their children Joanna and Leah and Heather Plume (Matthew) and their children Ali and Liam; step-granddaughter Heidi Coggan and her children Blake, Riley, Kayne, Kieran and Lily; step-grandson Robin Coggan and his children Alex and Paisley; brother Paul Thomas of Knightville, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Hubert was predeceased by his son Peter Thomas; brothers: James, Leonard, Harold, Samuel, Vernon and Robert Thomas; and sisters: Jennie Simpson and Millie Hickey.
