Obituary of Ruby Anne Brown

It is with great sadness the family of Ruby Anne Brown announce her death, which occurred at her home in Bayview, NB, on January 20, 2025.  Born on February 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Willard & Zelda (Godsoe) Ellis.

 

Ruby is survived by her sons: Richard Brown (Karen) of Bayview, NB, Kenneth Brown (Kim) of Norton, NB, Stewart Brown (Karen) of Springfield, NB; daughters: Andrea Floyd of Bayview, NB and Janet Brown (Michael) of Kingston, NB; her eleven grandchildren: Matthew Brown, Andrew Brown (Kathleen), Joshua Brown, Katie Ferris, Kellie Brown, Rebecca Floyd, Rachel Daigle (Matthew), Marshall Brown (Ashley), Chelsey Brown, Julia Brown, and Jessica Brown; seven great-grandchildren: Abigail, Damien, Wyatt, Hailey, Grayson, Gemma and Briar; sisters: Idella Marks (Harry) of Quispamsis, NB, Bernice MacDonald of St. Martins, NB, Laura MacAfee of Brockville, ON, and Sandra McGillivery (Earl) of Timmons ON; brothers: Willard Ellis (Carol) of Bains Corner, NB, John Ellis (Donna) of Bains Corner, NB, and Wendell Ellis (Vicki) of Woodstock, NB; sisters-in-law: Irene Ellis of Mount Pearl, NF, and Linda MacDonald (Ian) of St. Martins, NB; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

 

In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband Austin Brown; brother Andrew Ellis; sister Joyce MacDonald; sisters-in-law Dorothy Weston, Pat Brown and Helen Brown and brothers-in-law Art Brown, Hallie Brown, John MacDonald, Gerald MacAfee and Charles Weston.

 

Ruby married the love of her life, Austin, on September 6, 1958 and they were happily married for 48 years until his untimely death.  She was a devoted wife and mother and deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Ruby was an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing meals and treats for her family and church.  She was a strong and determined woman, acquiring her drivers license after the death of her husband at the age of 68.  Ruby was a member of the St. Martins United Church.  She enjoyed many hobbies; cooking, gardening, reading, puzzles and deer/bird watching.

 

In the fall of 2024, Ruby donated a breathtaking 233-hectare seaside forest “The Fundy Bayview Nature Reserve” to the Nature Conservancy of Canada in memory of Austin who cherished this special landscape.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Luan Le, Dr. Christian Mackin, the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital and the KV Extra-Mural program. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Mosher Hill Cemetery, St. Martins, NB.
