Our Story

We stand behind our reputation and will continue to serve our community with the values instilled by our funeral directors.

First established in the mid-1800s by Drake Mabee, our business would pass through the hands of two other families before Thad Stevens purchased the firm in 1923. Stevens, who got his start in funeral service when he apprenticed as a carpenter to a funeral director, is said to have assisted with the preparation of the Titanic victims in Halifax in 1912. It was 1950 when Cecil Reid arrived in Hampton to take over the funeral home from Thad Stevens. While the business clearly has deep roots and much history in the community, it is the Reid family name that today symbolizes compassionate funeral service for most who call Hampton and area home. Cecil (1926-2010) and his wife Frances (1927-2013) would run and grow the business for decades while raising an active family in the community.

In 1967 they moved the funeral home across the street to its current location. The next generation would all grow up in and around the family business, but it was youngest son Brock who would take up the torch, joining his father in the profession more than 30 years ago. Brock and wife Barbara would carry on the busy family tradition raising three daughters of their own while both serving the Town of Hampton in and away from the business. Cecil's son-in-law Len Goobie would also come into the business in the 1980s, soon becoming a licensed funeral director and active community supporter. Today Len maintains the Reid family ties to the firm.

In early 2013 Brock and Barbara Reid would decide to retire from the profession but ensured the ongoing care of their friends and neighbours by seeking out a new family to take the reins. Funeral Director Dyson Regular and his wife Melissa would become just the sixth family in more than 150 years to assume responsibility for the care of those in and around Hampton at times of loss.

Dyson Regular, a native of Woodstock, Newfoundland & Labrador, has more than 20 years’ experience  in funeral service, as a preplanning counsellor, a licensed funeral director, and a funeral home owner manager. A Kings County resident for most of his career, Dyson has worked throughout the region in  Sussex, Norton and Hampton.

Melissa (Kennedy) Regular grew up in Kars, NB, graduating from Belleisle Regional High  School in 1998. A busy Mom who most enjoys time spent with her three boys, Parker, Bailey and Jerome. She works full time as an administrator.
